Stevie Lee Combs & The Bitter Replacements (partial) @ Ambrose West 4-26-2019
Born in Akron, Ohio; raised in South Florida; currently living in Asheville, NC. Stevie is an avid street performer and thrives on local and community-based festivals/events: Paris of the South Flea Market, LAAFF, All Go West among others. Lee Combs, from which Stevie derives his stage name, was his great-grandfather from his mother’s side (his father’s lineage in unknown and uncertain). Lee Combs was a coal miner in Hazard, KY who died in a slate collapse in 1939. Stevie was raised by the women of the Combs family and was always curious about the their origins in Tennessee and Kentucky. After taking a family trip through those Southern states at age 8, he was forever fascinated by the culture and music of Appalachia; which is filtered (with absolute respect and reverence) through his songwriting and style. Because he was not raised in Appalachia, the music reflects more urban elements of blues, rock and roll, and even a hint of hip-hop.
