As Asheville’s premier original songwriting competition, the Brown Bag promotes local songwriters on aspects such as lyrics, talent, and performance.
Biography
The “Brown Bag” started off as a humble brown lunch sack. A plain paper bag can be filled with riches, loose change, Benjamins – almost anything! It’s magic, uncertain and charms the winner within. At the weekly Brown Bag Songwriting Competition, a simple brown bag is passed around the crowd each night. The amount of cash stuffed into the bag is based on the amount of energy put into the evening and there is no limit – someone could put $100 bill in there, it’s happened!
